A podiatrist is an allied health professional who must meet the professional registration requirements of the Podiatrists Board of New Zealand and hold a current annual practicing certificate.

A podiatrist is trained to assess, diagnose, and treat foot and lower limb abnormalities. These may include skin and nail pathologies, foot and ankle injuries, foot complications related to chronic conditions like diabetes as well as other medical conditions, and also biomechanical and musculoskeletal problems.
